Salvador Dali Mustaches

Today we learned about the artist, Salvador Dali.   He was one of the most famous and unusual artists of the twentieth century.    His best known paintings are called surrealistic.

He is also famous for his mustache!

After learning about Dali, we learned how to draw a face with expression.  Then each 3rd grader gave their face a fancy Dali-esque mustache!

Continuous Line Drawings

Students learned about a drawing exercise that artists use to improve their ability look for lines and shapes called, Continuous Line Drawing.

For this exercise, students put their pen down on their paper and do not lift it from the paper until their drawing is done.  Some students even tried the blind continuous line drawing exercise, where you don't look at your paper the entire time you are drawing.

Students drew faces, their hands, water bottles, scissors, and many other things without lifting their pens.  Tricky.....but they did an amazing job.    Each student chose two of their favorite drawings to display.   Here they are:

Andrew Wyeth Perspectives

Dear Parents,

Today we learned about the artwork of Andrew Wyeth and most specifically, Christina's World.

Andrew Wyeth was an American Artist.  He often painted realistic scenes of people and landscapes.

He used his surroundings as his inspiration.

Wyeth used perspective in many of his painting. Objects that are larger appear to be closer to us!

We have our last class this Friday in the lower building with Linda K.  Smart with Art will be offered in the winter as well... our next session is all about World Art.  

Planets

Today, 2nd Graders learned all about the artist Leonardo Da Vinci and how he was influenced by science and nature.   He used what he knew - such as using dark colors to create shade and light colors to show light- to create realistic paintings.

We used this technique of tinting and shading to create spheres.   2nd Graders are studying planets and space and created their own drawing of the planet of their choice.

They did an amazing job using tintng and shading to create a sphere out of a circle.

We had our last class today and our K-2nd graders have been busy learning about several American artists.

Snowmen Perspectives

3rd Graders learned all about Andrew Wyeth and his use of perspective in a painting called, Soaring.

They then created snowmen drawings from different perspectives.... looking up or looking down on the snowman.   Notice the shadows and sunlight to show value and light.

Robert Rauschenberg

 

 1925–2008. U.S. painter and sculptor Robert Rauschenberg is considered one of the major artists of the latter half of the 20th century. During his early career he devised new techniques of three-dimensional collage and assemblage. Within his artwork Rauschenberg used subject matter drawn from the popular culture, history, and mass media of the United States. 

His works are called COMBINES.

Today we used recycled items to make prints and took images from magazines and wrappers to create our own combines in the style of Rauschenberg.
